CAST BREAKDOWN

EARTH – Male – Any Age – Any Race – Our beautiful plant’s a bit whipped

GLOBAL WARMING – Female – Any Age – Any Race – Earth’s toxic girlfriend. She’s emotional and all over the place.

SUMMER – Any Gender – Any Age – Any Race – Just wants a chance to cool off

WINTER – Any Gender – Any Age – Any Race – Has lost all it’s chill

Location: Half of a tennis court

(EARTH and GLOBAL WARMING are in the middle of a heated doubles game of tennis. We can’t see their competitors. Earth plays politely, but Global Warming is running all over the court aggressively hitting every ball. She’s unstoppable and shows no remorse. Her final GRUNT and HIT! Volley over, our protagonists get a point. Global Warming celebrates, but Earth isn’t excited.)

GLOBAL WARMING

YES! Take that! Eat our CO2 you losers! WOOOoooo!

EARTH

Global Warming, sweetie, calm down.

GLOBAL WARMING

Oh, come on, Earth. We’re winning. We can celebrate!

(Annoyed, Earth approaches the net and calls across the court.)

EARTH

Sorry, Summer and Winter. You guys okay? Looks like that ball hit you pretty hard… Okay. Sorry again. Let’s take 5? Thanks.

(Earth smiles, nods, and goes back to Global Warming.)

EARTH

I thought we talked about this. You were going to go easy on Summer and Winter this time.

GLOBAL WARMING

I’m sorry, babe. I just have a natural competitive spirit. Also, Summer and Winter are just so slow to adapt. I mean, come on. They see the ball coming. Go hit it back!

EARTH

You know they can’t keep up with you. None of us can keep up with you, but you keep pushing. And the CO2 dig? You know that’s triggering. Maybe we shouldn’t have all gotten together.

GLOBAL WARMING

It’s not my fault that your friends can’t handle our passionate relationship byproduct.

EARTH

Your energy really negatively affects their eco-systems.

GLOBAL WARMING

Ugh! I’m so sick of hearing about that. Summer and Winter have been the same for like ever. They’re in a rut. It wouldn’t kill them to heat things up a bit.

EARTH

But it’s killing me a little.

GLOBAL WARMING

What do you mean? I thought you loved the way I shake up your atmosphere.

EARTH

Of course I do. I just… Global Warming, sweetie, why don’t we sit down for a second.

GLOBAL WARMING

What’s going on, Earth?

(Earth sits and taps the ground. Global Warming doesn’t move. Earth exhales, loudly.)

EARTH

….I was going to talk to you about this later when we were alone, but–

GLOBAL WARMING

This isn’t happening! Oh my universe…

(Global Warming breathes heavily, realizing what’s coming. She starts pacing around the court.)

EARTH

Global Warming, darling, why don’t you sit–

GLOBAL WARMING

I WILL NOT SIT DOWN! You’re not doing this right now… At the country club, in front of the whole universe! Ugh! Ugh! Nope.

(Earth stops Global Warming and grabs her by the shoulders.)

EARTH

Please, let’s not make more of a scene than we already do.

GLOBAL WARMING

Everyone’s just jealous of us! They wish they could produce greenhouse gases at our rate. They wish they had our wild fires. They wish–

EARTH

I think we should break up!
