Potrero Stage (formerly Thick House Theater) is currently undergoing major renovations, including new air conditioning, seating, lighting, signage and more. To mark the theater’s grand re-opening, PlayGround has commissioned eight local playwrights to create original short plays about Potrero Hill, its past, present and future. Integrated into a seamless, engaging and entertaining whole, this 90-minute new play will receive its world premiere at the renovated and soon-to-be-renamed Thick House, with special community discussions following each performance. Join us as we journey over 250 years to experience the people, places, and times that shaped this region: the Ohlone who first hunted and fished here; the Spanish missionaries and early Californios who began settling the region; Kit Carson, the De Haro twins, and the launch of the Mexican-American War; post-Gold Rush San Francisco and a rancher’s unique legacy; survivors of the 1906 earthquake; the WWII shipbuilders of Pier 70; Fritz Maytag and the birth of the craft brewing movement; a Potrero Annex family’s memories on the eve of the Hope SF reconstruction, and beyond!

Co-directed by Norman Gee, Margo Hall, Jim Kleinmann, and Katja Rivera, featuring Carlos Aguirre, Melvign Badiola, Jessica Bates*, Karen Offereins, Soren Oliver*, Jed Parsario, Cathleen Riddley*, and JD Scalzo. * Member, Actors’ Equity Association
