However, a new student, Lena Bala, threatens to disrupt the traditions of the group when her presence breaks their dance props to pieces. Despite Lena’s clumsiness, her passion shines through, prompting the troupe to question why they perform and how we can be our true selves. The link to the Zoom event can be found here!

Desireé York is most grateful to Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble for the opportunity to pause and remember the lives lost to this pandemic, and more specifically, to commemorate her grandmother in her monologue/poem entitled “STILL HERE”.  Like so many unable to hold memorials together, this special project invites everyone to join in honoring these lives through art recorded for posterity. The beautiful, insightful and truly gifted artist Jully Lee for brings the words to life visually, audibly and captures the intended spirit in every syllable and silence.  These monologues will also be published with proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders.  Thank you to all who watch this video as we take a step towards healing together. The video can be viewed with this link.
