Daysha Veronica (Click HERE!) has recently received 2 distinguished achievement awards from The Kennedy Center for her thesis play, The Write Choice. It also made it to the semi-finals of the 2021 Bay Area Playwright’s Festival. The Write Choice follows an early career black female playwright who wins her first development opportunity and struggles to confront her all white development team when she arrives in town for the reading and discovers her play has been cast differently than what she imagined. So, she must fight through her insecurities surrounding her blackness to find her voice and bring her true vision to life. It was workshopped for 4 weeks in collaboration with New York Theatre Workshop as part of UCLA’s New Play Festival. You can watch the Zoom recording of The Write Choice on YouTube HERE!

Sylvia Cervantes Blush  will be directing a live streamed reading of “I Kissed Chavela Vargas” by Monica Palacios SUNDAY MAY 16, 2021 at 3:00 pm PT, 4pm MT, 5pm CT, 6pm ET I Kissed Chavela Vargas is a memory play with music that revolves around three generations of Chicanas. A performance piece about performing, aging, healing, female sexuality and grace. Featuring Marga Gomez, Cristina Frías, Diana Burbano, Shanelle Darlene and Moises Vázquez. Amanda L. Andrei, This April, she had a staged reading of HECUBA, a loose adaptation of Euripides’ play of the same name and touching on the American eugenics movement in Filipinotown LA, with Playwrights Arena through their Ghost Light Reading Series. On May 25, her play MAMA, I WISH I WERE SILVER, about two Filipina American half-sisters clearing out their deceased mother’s papers (and finding they may have a life of their own), will have a streaming workshop performance with Vagrancy Theatre. Allie Costa recently booked and recorded the lead role in an animated film, sang in a livestreamed cabaret, voiced a virtual assistant in a cool interactive film, and appeared in a workshop of a new dramatic musical. She has a recurring role on the new series “My Big Fat Blonde Musical,” which just aired its first season finale. Allie’s play Yes, And… is currently running in NPC’s Virtual Spring Theatre Festival, and she directed an audio production of her script Dear Neighbor for Soundscape Theater’s Laughscapes Festival. Mark Sherstinsky‘s one-act play SILVER LININGS, a speculative work about viruses, technology and family, will be published in the forthcoming issue of the RipRap Journal (May 2021, Volume 43). The play was originally written for Monday Night PlayGround. For more information visit HERE!

Mildred Inez Lewis‘s new play ECLOSION is being published by NextStage Press as part of the ALICE IN QUARANTINE collection. AITHIOPES IMAGINED was read in Antaeus’ short play festival, The Greeks. For more information visit HERE!

Jordan Covington will be featured in an original play in the PlayGround Zoom Fest. The play is titled “Perfect”. It’s a play following three story lines, and them chasing the idea of perfection with the use of technology. The shows will be premiered May 15th and May 16th. Evan Baughfman, On May 20th through May 22nd, Evan Baughfman’s CANDLELIGHT will be produced as part of Atlantic Acting School’s C2 One Act Play Festival, alongside various pieces written by other amazing PlayGround playwrights!
