2023-24 Monday Night PlayGround Tickets on Sale!

PlayGround is thrilled to announce the 30th season of Monday Night PlayGround, the nation’s longest-running and most celebrated staged reading series, now available in the SF Bay Area, Los Angeles, NYC and Chicago, both in-person and simulcast. The season kicks off at Hollywood’s Broadwater Theaters on October 9, 2023 and concludes April 1, 2024 at PlayGround’s newest home, Theater Wit in Chicago. Monday Night PlayGround is all about potential: the potential of new writers for the stage, finding inspiration in a prompt, writing a short play, and then seeing that short play performed for the first time, live before other theatre makers and theatre-goers. The potential of new stories — comedic, dramatic and those that defy a simple label — being converted from ideas to words on a page to a performed experience in a theater and truly coming alive. By uplifting these voices, communities and artists, we share in their experiences and create connections we may not have found elsewhere.

Each month, from October through March, PlayGround announces a topic to pre-selected writers pools of emerging professional playwrights in each of our four regions, inviting submissions of original ten-page plays. The top short plays are selected and presented as script-in-hand staged readings on select Mondays, featuring some of each region’s best directors and actors. Admission to all Monday Night performances is free, though donations are gratefully accepted and directly support artist compensation.
