by Margo Rofé

CHARACTERS

DANI: Female, non-ethnic specific; 30s; upbeat and positive; silly at times; New Age outlook onlife and sees the good in everything; has nothing but fond memories of her family; younger sister to Flora.

FLORA: Female, non-ethnic specific; 30s; pragmatic, no-nonsense and business like; harbors
unpleasant memories of her family, which she chooses to forget; older sister to Dani.

SETTING

Living room setting consisting of a couch and a coffee table and one other chair. There is a big box on top of the coffee table.

AT RISE: Flora is sitting on the couch, humming, as she sifts through the detritus in the box.

Dani enters carrying a big box.

DANI
Ugh! I think this is the last of the boxes.

FLORA
Great. Why don’t you get started on it then.

Dani starts to walk over to the couch and stumbles. She drops the box and several of the items fall out.

DANI
Oh shit!

FLORA
You okay?

DANI
Yeah.

Picks up items from the floor and notices a bra included among them.

Oh wow!

FLORA
What?

DANI
I think I found it!

FLORA
Found what?

DANI
Mom’s bra. [salaciously] Or shall I say THE bra.

Dani walks over and holds the bra up to Flora.

FLORA
Noooooo, I don’t think so.

DANI
Has to be it. I mean, why else would Mom keep an old bra in a box in the garage?

FLORA
It could’ve just accidentally fallen in the box. You know, the washer and dryer are out there, too. Let me see it.

Flora reaches out her hand for the bra, in thinly-disguised awe of it. Dani tauntingly moves the bra out of her reach.

DANI
Nope. Why would you want to see it if you don’t believe it’s THE bra—

FLORA
Never mind. . . . You don’t actually believe that story Mom told us, do you?!

DANI
What? That she took off the bra—this bra—and marched topless with Gloria Steinem? Of
course, I do. And no doubt she kept it as a memento.

Dani puts the bra on over her clothes.

Stay tuned for the season-ending Best of PlayGround-LA!
